Mary Curtis Gentle

August 20, 1920 — September 5, 2014

Mary Curtis Gentle, 94, a resident of Dothan, AL and formerly longtime resident of Birmingham, AL passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at Wesley Manor.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham with Chaplain COL-R Sonny Moore officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Wesley Manor Fountain of Love, 718 Honeysuckle Road, Dothan, AL, 36305 or to Gentiva Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL, 36303.

Mrs. Gentle was born August 12, 1920 in Cedartown, GA to the late Sherman Peak and Lela Smith Curtis. She spent most of her life in the Birmingham area where she and her husband owned and operated a mom and pop malt shop called Kwik Burger and Shake which was located in the Avondale neighborhood. She was also employed as a "Pink Lady" volunteer and physical therapy aide at Baptist Medical Center – Montclair. She relocated to Dothan in 2009. Mrs. Gentle was a longtime member of Huffman Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmo Franklin Gentle.

Survivors include her son Robert C. Gentle and his wife Ellen of Fairhope, AL; her daughter Kay G. Nailen and her husband Charles of Dothan, AL; her grandchildren, Jennifer Fernambucq and her husband Richie of Birmingham, AL, Julianna Massey of Atlanta, GA, Meredith Agan and her husband Dave of Ozark, AL, and C. Charles Nailen, III and his wife Iriabel of Doha, Qatar; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Lib Denman of Birmingham, AL; several nieces and nephews.
