Maurice Edward Sigmon

Lt. Col. (Retired) Maurice Edward "Moe" Sigmon (US Army), a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2023, at the age of 93. Born on July 30, 1930, in Marion, Indiana, Moe was a man of honor and integrity who led a life characterized by faith-filled devotion, loving kindness, and thoughtful consideration for others.

Moe was the cherished son of the late Herbert M. Sigmon and Eleanor Mae McDowell Sigmon, and the beloved brother of the late Margaret Lorraine Sigmon Myers and Francis M Sigmon. He was also the treasured stepson of the late Nicholas A Fiorella. Moe's loving and resilient spirit was nurtured in these early years, setting the foundation for a life of service and dedication.

In 1948, Moe graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, before attending Purdue University. His thirst for knowledge led him to further his education at the University of Maryland and Boston University. A lifelong learner, Moe's pursuit of knowledge was a testament to his belief in the power of education.

Moe began his illustrious career in the U.S Army Reserves, and it was while serving in Fort Bliss at El Paso that he met his beloved wife, Patricia. They married in 1954, marking the beginning of a loving partnership that would span nearly seven decades. His career took him to Houston Academy for two years, followed by a stint in banking, and then to the City of Dothan. In his later years, he operated A to Z Computers and Dothan Accounting. On his 90th birthday, he even worked at WOOF radio, a testament to his tireless spirit and zest for life.

Moe was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Dothan for over 40 years. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he served his church community as an usher, a greeter, and a member of the administrative board. His faith-filled life was a beacon to those around him, inspiring and uplifting all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Sigmon, and his loving daughter, Linda (Walter) Jones. He was the proud grandfather of Walter "Charlie" (Rachel) Jones, Jr., and Martha "Meg" Jones, and the adoring great-grandfather of Dean Richard Jones. Moe's legacy of love, faith, and service lives on in his family, who will remember him as a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a beacon of love.

In his passing, we remember Lt. Col. (Retired) Maurice Edward "Moe" Sigmon (US Army) for his unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his community. A loving husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and a great-grandfather, Moe's life was a testament to the enduring power of faith, the importance of service, and the transformative power of love. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church Chapel in Dothan, AL with Rev. Lawson Bryan and Dr. David Saliba officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, AL. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 - 2:00 pm on the day of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
