Maxine G. Gilmore

Maxine Gaynell McLaurin Gilmore of Ashford passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She was 70.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Memphis Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Hand, Rev. Jim Tate and Rev. Rick Glenn officiating. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at Memphis Baptist Church one hour prior to service time. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home. Mrs. Gilmore was born on February 22, 1940 in Monroe County and she resided the early years of her life there. She resided in Ashford for over thirty-five years and was employed at Ashford Elementary School as a Headstart teacher’s aide for ten years prior to her retirement in 2005. Mrs. Gilmore was a member of First Baptist Church of Ashford for many years and attended Memphis Baptist Church this last year of her life. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a volunteer at the Columbia Baptist Ministry Center and the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Gilmore was preceded in death by her parents Byron and Clara McLaurin, siblings Ida Bender, Lovoy McLaurin, Gloria Joyce McLaurin, and Shelby Jean Atkins, and a daughter Teir Gilmore Jeffcoat.Survivors include her husband Thomas E. “Edd” Gilmore, Sr. of Ashford; her children, Lesa Parker and her husband Scott of Ashford, Thomas E. Gilmore, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Ashford, and Shaunason Edward Gilmore of Ashford; a son-in-law Jamie Jeffcoat of Gordon; grandchildren, Leslie Jeffcoat, Joshua Jeffcoat, Rachel Gilmore, Brett Gilmore, Chase Preachers, Zoë Gilmore, and MaKinley Parker; a sister Linda Green of Repton, AL; brothers, Franklin McLaurin and his wife Nell of Monroeville, AL and Paul McLaurin of Repton, AL; several nieces, nephews, friends and special neighbors also survive.Serving as active pallbearers will be Jamie Jeffcoat, Raye Atkins, David Green, Keith Green, Shenandoah McLaurin, and Russ Gilmore. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
