Michael David Barr

LTC Michael David Barr (US Army Ret.), a resident of Dothan, Alabama passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 at his residence. He was 69 years old. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Southerland officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mike was born on January 24, 1949 in Taylorsville, MS and lived his early years in Gulfport, MS where he was a 1967 graduate of Gulfport East High School in Gulfport, MS. After high school, he attended William Carey University where he received his B.S. Degree in Business. He did his post graduate studies at the University of Southern Mississippi-Hattiesburg and Troy University-Dothan. Mike resided in Winchester, VA before moving to Dothan in 2000. He was employed with the US Army Department of Defense at the Pentagon. During his Military Service, he received several awards and medals including the Meritorious Service Medal w/oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. Mike was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Lions Club, the Military Officers Association and a Rotarian. Survivors include his wife, Becky Barr; a son, Nathan (Stephanie) Barr; daughters, Robyn Barr and Caroline (George) Merritt; grandchildren, Gracie Merritt, Emma Merritt, Henry Barr and James Barr; a brother, Wayne (Katie) Barr; a sister, Beverly (Paul) Dokken; a nephew, Stephen Dokken; and a niece, Misha (Ernie) Brown. Burial Date July 7, 2018 Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Southerland officiating.
