Michael Loftin McMoy

February 8, 1949 — December 4, 2024

Michael Loftin McMoy, a cherished husband, devoted father, and adored grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, in his hometown of Dothan, Alabama. Born on February 8, 1949, in the same close-knit community, Michael's life was a testament to his loving nature and unwavering work ethic.

Michael shared 44 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Linda McMoy. Together, they raised two daughters, Shelly McMoy Bostic and Mandy McMoy-Skogebo, who filled their lives with joy and pride. Michael's legacy continued to blossom with the birth of his three grandchildren, Luke Bostic, Jonathan Skogebo, and Sydney Skogebo, and was further enriched by the arrival of his two great-grandchildren, Melody Skogebo and Sterling Skogebo-Ortiz. Michael is also survived by David McGriff, a close family friend who was like a brother.

A proud graduate of Dothan High School, Michael's thirst for knowledge led him to the University of Alabama, where he furthered his education. His professional journey began at Farley Nuclear Plant, where he honed his skills in construction. Despite moving to various locations throughout his career, Michael's heart remained in Dothan, leading him to return and serve his community at the Dothan Post Office for 30 years until his retirement in 2015. His dedication to his country was also evident through his two years of service in the National Guard.

Michael and Linda shared a remarkable 44-year journey of love, devotion, and resilience. From the moment they met, their connection was undeniable, forming a partnership grounded in mutual respect and unwavering support. Together, they built a life filled with cherished traditions, laughter, and adventures—raising a family, nurturing a vibrant garden, and creating countless memories in the warmth of their home. Linda stood by Michael’s side with steadfast love and care, especially during his courageous 9-year battle with glioblastoma, proving that true love shines brightest in the face of adversity. Michael’s dry wit and Linda’s compassionate heart were a perfect balance, creating a bond that inspired all who knew them. Their story is one of enduring commitment, showing that even as life presents its challenges, love remains a guiding light. Their legacy will forever remind us of the beauty of a life well-loved and lived together.

A hard worker by nature, Michael's commitment to his job and family was unparalleled. His ability to balance a demanding career with the needs of his loved ones was a skill he mastered with grace and humility. He had a talent for making those in his presence feel valued and loved, often through his quick-witted humor and generous spirit.

In his leisure time, Michael enjoyed moments of quiet reflection and the comfort of his family's company. His interests, though he considered them very basic, were deeply rooted in the happiness and well-being of his family. Michael's life was a beautiful illustration of the values he held dear: love, laughter, and selflessness. Michael also enjoyed playing Dixie League Baseball where he pitched for Dixie League World Series in 1961 in South Boston, Virginia.

Michael Loftin McMoy will be remembered as a funny, loving, and generous man who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will live on as a beacon of what it means to lead a life filled with compassion and dedication to one's family. Though he may have departed from this world, his spirit continues to inspire and guide those he loved most.
