Morris Malone Slingluff, of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010. He loved well and was so loved by his wife, children, grand-children and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity with Rev. Ede Plovanich officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 12-1:30 pm in the Church Parish Hall prior to services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 205 Holly Ln., Dothan, AL, 36301, Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Rd., Dothan, AL, 36303, or to the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens, 5130 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL, 36303.Mr. Slingluff was predeceased by his parents, Betts S. Slingluff, Sr. and Helen Malone Slingluff and by his brother Rev. Betts S. Slingluff, Jr. He is survived by his wife Louise Reddoch Slingluff, his daughter Mary Helen Richards and her husband Danny, his daughter Laurin M. Waid and her husband Charles, his son Benjamin D. Slingluff and his wife Shayne, his step-son James R. Reddoch, III and his wife Emilie, his step-daughter, Marion Reddoch Pound and her husband John, his sister-in-law Margaret M. Slingluff, three nieces, one nephew and eleven grandchildren.Morris graduated from Dothan High School in 1959 and from Auburn University in 1963. He was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church and led a Sunday school class for 25 years. While at Auburn University, he was Auburn’s first All-American golfer and is a member of the Auburn Tiger Trail. In 1963, he joined his father at Slingluff United Insurance and has worked there for 47 years. All co-workers at Slingluff United Insurance will serve as honorary pall bearers.Morris served on many boards and civic organizations including the Dothan Rotary Club. He was the co-chairman of "Yes, We Can, Dothan", a grass-roots movement to improve public schools. He was also an active member in the Dothan Multi-Racial Group for 35 years.Pallbearers are Wayne Prim, George Dennis, Chuck Dunseth, Jimmy Goldsborough, Richard Seaman, Glenn Northcutt, Ben McLaughlin, John Peacock and Tom West.
