Myrna Marie (Chatman) Potter

November 24, 1942 — February 7, 2024

Dothan

We gather in the luminous presence of the Lord to honor and celebrate the life of Myrna Potter, a beacon of love and faith who walked among us. Born on November 24th, 1942, in Montclair, New Jersey, Myrna was a cherished gift to this world, a gift that God called home on February 7th, 2024, in the peaceful town of Dothan, Alabama. Myrna was a woman who embodied the warmth and grace of Southern hospitality, touching the lives of all who knew her with her caring and selfless spirit.

Myrna's journey began in the rolling hills of Montclair, where she was born to the late James L. Chatman and Dolores Munford Chatman. Her youthful days were spent surrounded by her loving siblings, Deauwand Rick Chatman, and Mona Townes, as well as the late Reginald "Skat" Bynum and James L. Chatman, II "Jim-Jim". The bonds she formed in those early years were deep and everlasting. Myrna's education at East Orange High School and her pursuit of knowledge at Drake College of Business laid the foundation for a life of diligent service and unwavering dedication.

The Lord guided Myrna's steps to Dothan after the passing of her beloved husband, Charles Williams, where she spent 40 glorious years, and to Texas, where she resided with her daughter for a time. Her career at Ft. Rucker spanned over two decades, where she served as a GS 07 Administrative Secretary with a heart full of joy and hands ready to assist. Following her retirement, Myrna's nurturing spirit found a new outlet at Myrna's Little Blessed Angels in Home Daycare, where she worked for six years, shaping young lives with her gentle touch and prayerful spirit.

Myrna's life was a testament to her love for her family. She was a pillar of strength and affection for her son, Clifford Doyle (Hazel) Williams, and daughter, Tracey Williams (Charles) Hill. Her grandchildren, Charles "CJ" Williams and Charlise "Songbird" Hill, basked in her adoration, as did her Godson, Freddy "PJ" Townes. Myrna's siblings, Deauwand Rick Chatman, and Mona Townes, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family, shared in the beauty of her life's journey.

The heart of Myrna's home was always filled with the aroma of her legendary lasagna and spaghetti, evidence of her love for cooking and sharing meals with those she held dear. Her voice would ring out in melodious joy as she sang Happy Birthday to loved ones over the phone, marking their special days with her personal touch. Myrna was truly an animal whisperer, a friend to all of God's creatures, particularly her beloved dogs, Feshu and Mocha.

Her heart was as vast as the heavens, and her capacity to love knew no bounds. Myrna was a prayer warrior, a woman of deep and abiding faith, whose every breath was a hymn of praise. Her grandchildren were the jewels in her crown, and her love for them was as infinite as the stars in the sky.

Myrna Potter was the embodiment of an angel on earth—loving, caring, and God-fearing. Her legacy is one of unwavering faith and boundless love, a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us.

A celebration of Myrna's angelic life will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Dothan Community Church with Pastor Charles Lewis officiating, where we will gather to share memories and rejoice in her homecoming. The family will receive friends and loved ones at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 4-6 pm, where we will comfort one another in fellowship.

Brothers and sisters, let us hold fast to the memory of Myrna Potter, a woman whose life was a sermon of love, whose actions were a prayer, and whose story will be told with reverence and joy for generations to come. Amen.
