Myrtle Mae Kummer

December 26, 1940 — May 7, 2016

Myrtle Mae Stewart Kummer, 75, a resident of Dothan passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sammy Stewart officiating and Sherry McCormick with accompanying piano. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of American http://mymsaa.org/.

Known to her family and friends as Mae, she was born December 26, 1940 in Jackson County, Florida, to the late Major Dewey and Bessie Lee Cannady. Mae was preceded in death by her husband Richard Kummer and several siblings which included three brothers, Bobby, Thomas and Junior Cannady and four sisters, Betty and Emma Cannady, Pat Johnson and Hazel Moore. Mae spent her childhood growing up on a farm in Jackson County Florida. In high school at Malone High, she was a member of the girls basketball team, the Glee Club and several other school organizations. She spent most of her early adult years working in the textile industry and the last 25 years in horticulture and ownership of Florida Star Nursery. At age 63, she was able to go to college Washington-Holmes Tech and receive her certification in horticulture. Mae loved the Lord Jesus Christ and her family and friends dearly. She also had a special heart for all animals, as she would frequently take in stray, abused and abandoned animals and critters. She was a blessing to many.

She is survived by her beloved four children; a daughter, Debra Galloway and her husband Bobby; three sons, Dwight Stewart, Dwayne Stewart and wife Kendra, and Dennis Stewart and wife April; six grandchildren, Matthew Galloway, Anna and Garrison Stewart, Madison Stewart and CJ Giles, and Mackenzie and Noah Stewart; a great-grandson Aidan Galloway and great-granddaughter Addilyn Galloway. She had many cousins, nieces and nephews in which she loved also.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the many phone calls, prayers and loving thoughts that have been sent.
