Naomi A. Smith

November 5, 1934 — May 19, 2024

Scottsboro

Naomi Adkison Smith, a beacon of love and faith, passed away after an extended illness on May 19, 2024, in Scottsboro, Alabama. Born on November 5, 1934 to the late Jasper N. and Martha Harris Adkison, in Geneva County, Alabama, Naomi's journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to her family, her work, and her community.

Naomi's early life in Geneva County was filled with the bustling energy of a large family. As one of fourteen siblings, she learned the values of hard work and perseverance. Her academic prowess was evident as she graduated as Valedictorian from Slocomb High School in 1953. Naomi married Jamesy L. Smith and lived in Geneva County for many years before he passed away in 1984. They were married for over 20 years. Together they joined Bay Springs Baptist Church.

For many years, Naomi was a dedicated employee of the IAM, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, where she excelled as a secretary. Her retirement in 1994 marked the end of a distinguished career, but the beginning of new adventures and cherished moments with family and friends.

Naomi shared a love of travel with her late husband, Max Snell, exploring new places and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Her nurturing spirit was evident in the way she cared for her garden, painting, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves. Her favorite pastime, however, was fishing on Lake Eufaula.

A long-time member of Bay Springs Baptist Church, Naomi's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. It was a source of strength and inspiration. Her kind and loving nature left an indelible mark on her community.

Naomi leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by her son, Jim (Selena) Smith, her adored grandchildren, Olivia and Gabe Smith, her sister, Jean Adkison Smith, and several nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Naomi's life will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Brother Fred Lamar Bobo will officiate the service, offering comfort and solace to all in attendance.

Naomi Smith's journey through life was marked by her loving nature, her faith-filled spirit, and her unfailing kindness. As we reflect on her life, we are grateful for the moments we shared and the wisdom she imparted. Her legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those she loved and the community she served.
