Neva Smith Chance

Neva Smith Chance, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at her residence. She was 92. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2 pm EST at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1 Mt. Vernon Church Road, Highway 37, Fort Gaines, GA 39851. Refreshments and light snacks will be served in the fellowship hall following the service. Mrs. Neva Smith Chance was born September 21, 1926 in Clay County, Georgia as the youngest of nine children. She graduated from Fort Gaines High School in 1943. She spent much of her life living in Miami, Florida. She married Carl Chance in January 1999 and the couple moved to Dothan, Alabama in 2004 where she spent her remaining years. She loved cooking, especially rum cake for the Christmas holidays. She was an avid reader and enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a well-loved Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her previous husband, Smitty, and her son, Freddy. She is survived by her husband, Carl, her daughter, Neva “Punkin” and her husband, Edwin “Ace”, and two granddaughters, Amy and Nancy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2 pm EST at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1 Mt. Vernon Church Road, Highway 37, Fort Gaines, GA 39851. Refreshments and light snacks will be served in the fellowship hall following the service.
