Nicholas Accardo, a resident of Midland City, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Flowers Hospital. He was 83.A Rosary service will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with military honors with Robert Byrd directing. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Columba Catholic Church Capital Campaign Fund, 2700 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36305.Mr. Accardo was born January 7, 1926, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and resided there most of his life until moving to Dothan in 1995. He served in World War II in the Merchant Marines and was also a veteran of the Korean War where he served the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Accardo owned and operated Nick Accardo Plumbing and Heating for thirty years. He also served as plumbing inspector for the city of New Orleans for ten years, prior to his retirement in 1992. He was a master wood craftsman. He also loved music and played the clarinet. Mr. Accardo was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife Grace Salita Accardo of Midland City; daughters, Donna Albares and her husband Robert of Dothan, Lori Smart and her husband Foch of Montgomery, AL; 7 grandchildren, Nicholas Albares, Michael Albares, David Albares, Timothy Albares, Joshua Smart, Melanie Smart, Jonathan Smart; brothers, Anthony Accardo of Slidell, LA, C.J. Accardo of Kenner, LA; several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Accardo’s grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.rn rn rn rn rn Burial Date: January 1, 1970
