Norma Jeanne Spivey, a resident of Dothan passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in Graceville, FL.
Memorial services will be 3 pm Sunday, April 28, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm prior to the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Children's Ministries or the We Care Ministries at First United Methodist Church.
Norma Jeanne Borland Spivey was born in Hot Springs, AR to Rosa Norma Adams Borland and John Augustine Borland. After graduation from there she attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. She married William Moody Spivey and moved to Dothan where she received her Master’s degree from Troy University. She loved teaching school at Girard and Northview High School. She also taught Sunday school classes at First United Methodist Church and was an active member for many years. She loved life, her church, her family, students, Crimson Tide, people and music. An active supporter of Music South was one of her favorite activities. She traveled extensively in Europe often taking many students and enjoying people as tour director. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, John Augustus Borland.
Surviving are her sons John William Spivey Bonnie and Robert Norman Spivey Kelly; her adored grandchildren: Philip Patrick, Erin Kathleen, Eric Sean, Susannah Leigh, and Stephen Pierce Spivey; also surviving, nieces Debra Borland Koppang Glen and Norma Gay Borland Spillers Jeff and many cousins.
