Norman Thomas Bounds, 83, of Dothan passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center after a courageous battle with leukemia.
rnFuneral services will be held 11 am, Friday, October 14, 2011 at First Christian Church with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10 am until 11 am Friday at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2346 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301 or to First Christian Church, 1401 N. Cherokee Ave., Dothan, AL 36303. rnMr. Bounds was born February 25, 1928 in Griffithville, AR and lived the early part of his life there. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Missouri Baptist College where he played basketball. He later graduated from Gradwohl Medical Technology School in St. Louis, MO. He resided in Poplar Bluff, MO prior to moving to Dothan in 1957. Mr. Bounds was the original director of the laboratory at Southeast Alabama Medical Center for over 25 years. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Dothan National Golf Club formerly Olympia Spa. Mr. Bounds was a 50 year Mason and a member of Pythagoras Lodge and First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd Bounds, Marion Bounds, Edward Bounds, an infant brother, Bobby Joe Bounds, and by his son-in-law, David Tedin. rnSurvivors include his wife Janice Bounds of Dothan; daughters, Ronda Blair Steve of Birmingham and Regina Tedin of Dothan; grandchildren, Zachary Blair, Jacob Blair, and Callyn Tedin all of Birmingham, Dr. Kelsey Steensland John John of New Orleans, LA; a great-grandchild Avery Claire Steensland; a brother-in-law Larry Hudson Sharon of Arizona; sisters, Juanita Clayton and Lois Tedrick both of Poplar Bluff, MO; a sister-in-law Rose Bounds of Texas; several nieces and nephews also survive. rnServing as pallbearers will be Tom Devine, Fred Pearce, Jamey Vibbert, Mark Schwarz, Harrison Parrish, and Tony Kenward. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mike Devine and the Dothan National Golf Group. rnThe family would like to express their gratitude for the care and compassion of the nurses of 3 East at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
