Ozell Smith

Ozell Smith age 91 of Gordon, Alabama was called home to our Lord on Sunday, October 21, 2018. He was also known as "Shine" and "Big O". Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 25, 2018 at St. Mary Baptist Church in Gordon, Alabama. Burial will follow in St. Mary Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm. Ozell was born August 27, 1927 in Live Oak, FL to Mr. Walter Smith and Ms. Phosie Russ. He was a faithful member of the St. Mary Baptist Church until his health declined and he was no longer able to attend. His passion was driving trucks and he drove trucks his entire life until his retirement from Summerford Truck Line, INC. He also was a mayor of the town of Gordon for twelve years. Preceding him in death was his father Walter Smith, his mother Phosie Smith and a son-in-law, David Young. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of 71 years, Lugene Smith of Gordon. Five children: Irma (George) Reynolds of Columbia, SC; Leroy (Curlie) Smith of Ashford, AL; Maxine Young of Dothan, AL; Melverton (Booker T.) Hogan of Headland, AL; Danny (Elizabeth) Smith of Dothan, AL; a special friend Mrs. Gwen Howard and special sister-in-law Mrs. Annie Cummings of Gordon, AL; sisters-in-laws, brother-in-laws and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
