Peggie Frances Layton

Peggie Frances Layton, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 following an extended illness. She was 77. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Shirah officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-2 pm. Mrs. Layton was born to the parents of Norman Ray and Flora Smith Burgess in Ashford, Alabama on October 10, 1941. She would reside in Ashford the early years of her life. In 1960 she graduated from Ashford High School and was employed with Solomon Motor Company and later with Wood Chevrolet in Birmingham, AL. Mrs. Layton then moved back to Dothan in 1983 became employed with Jack's Hamburgers and later retired from working with Transamerica Insurance Company. She loved visiting with friends and family as often as possible. Mrs. Layton was a member of First Baptist Church of Ashford. Mrs. Layton was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, G. W. Layton, her daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Eugene Vann, her brother, Jimmy Burgess, and by her sister, Johnelle Burgess Rhodes. Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Layton and her friend, Todd Jones; her brother, Rusty (Thelma) Burgess; her brother-in-law, Wren (Bobbie) Layton; by her sister-in-law, Lynn Burgess; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
