Penelope Owen Ballantine

Penelope Owen "Penny" Ballantine, 91, of Dothan passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 at her residence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 pm Friday, December 20, 2013 at the St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Father Patrick Maher officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 W. Main St., Dothan, AL, 36303 or to Alacare Hospice, 3379 W. Main St., Dothan, AL, 36305.

Mrs. Ballantine was born on December 7, 1922 in Birmingham, AL. She was a registered nurse for over 40 years. She was stationed in France while she served as a registered nurse in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII. Mrs. Ballantine was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Pauline McClure Owen; a daughter Deborah Ballantine Croft; and a sister Elizabeth Owen Sturdivant.

Survivors include her husband Laurence E. Ballantine; her son Laurence E. Lynn Ballantine, Jr.; grand-daughters, Katherine L. Ballantine and Elizabeth W. Ballantine.
