Philip Henry Helmstetter, a resident of Daleville Clayhatchee Community passed away on Friday, June 12, 2009 at his residence. He was 76.rnMass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Jan officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing.rnMr. Helmstetter was the son of Henry Philip Helmstetter and Julia Klespie Helmstetter who was born on July 30, 1932 in Newark, New Jersey. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Army as a demolitions expert. He was decorated and honorably discharged from the army in 1954. He married Elaine Sophie Somodi February 11, 1961 at St. Columbus Church in Newark, New Jersey. Mr. Helmstetter served as a police officer in Newark, New Jersey with ten years of honorable service. He was employed with I.T.T. Continental Wonder Bread division for several years prior to his retirement in 1991. Mr. Helmstetter moved to Alabama in 1994 to enjoy his retirement. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for three years he was a member of the V.F.W. Post 133 in East Brunswick, NJ for more than twenty years where he served as Vice Commander. Mr. Helmstetter was also a member of the American Legion in Milltown, NJ for more than twenty years, where was very active in community events. rnSurvivors include his wife, Elaine Helmstetter, Clayhatchee; a daughter, Leeza Elizabeth Sherffield and her husband, David; a son, Philip Henry Helmstetter, Jr. and his wife, Julia; ten grandchildren, Crystalee, Apollonia, Amanda, Myami, Matthew, Meagen, Blake, Erin; 9 great-grandchildren. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
