Philip Eugene "Gene" Newton, Jr., a resident of Dothan passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his residence with his devoted wife and family by his side. He was 73 years old. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Dothan with Dr. Johnny Fain officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dothan or to the Wiregrass Humane Society. Mr. Newton was born May 25, 1945 in Florida. He transferred to Dothan in 1972 with the phone company, where he served in several managerial positions. Following 29 years of service in the phone industry, he organized his own company, The Greener Side. Gene was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan. Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years Trish Newton; his sister Jualene Newton Justin; nieces and nephews, LaRhonda & Danny Irvin, Thomas Botts, Chuck & Gina Murphy, Marybeth & Clay Murphy, Kylie & Henry Dawkins, Heather & Jeffrey Johnson, Jordan, John Logan, and Lilly Grace Johnson, Tiffany Botts, MaKayla Graves, Tom, Jeremy, and Heather Justin; special friends, Marie Johnson, Pat Stewart, and Jessie & Marie Reeves; his loving and devoted 4-legged girls, Sugar, Bella, and Red. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Irvin, Jeffrey Johnson, Henry Dawkins, Chuck Murphy, Clay Murphy, and Clay Newton. The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Misty Jowers, RN with Kindred Hospice for the special care and love she bestowed upon our family.
