Rev. Phillip Franklin Standifer, of Newton went to be with Jesus Saturday morning, December 11, 2010 at his home following a fight against cancer. He was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Newton First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Andy Wood, Rev. Larry Skipper, and Rev. Terry Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Monday at the funeral home.rnRev. Standifer was born on August 5, 1924 in Pinckard, AL. He was a minister for over 30 years serving for 10 years as the pastor of the Alabaster Kingwood Assembly of God Church and 24 years at Newton First Assembly of God until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie Benjamin and Mattie Standifer, and his brothers, James Standifer, Earl Standifer, Kenneth Standifer, Dan Standifer, Paul Standifer, Jack Standifer, and J.T. Standifer, and a granddaughter Callie Joanna Standifer.rnSurvivors include his wife, Elouise Standifer of Newton; his sons, Jerry Glenda Standifer and Phillip Barbara Standifer all of Newton; his five grandchildren, Jeffery Joy Standifer, Selina Randy Smith, Starla Farris, Joshua Standifer, and Brianna Adrian Andrews; his six great-grandchildren, Isabelle Standifer, Sawyer Andrews, Micayla Farris, Emily Standifer, Lydia Standifer, and Maddi Standifer; his sister, Matha Crews; his sister-in-law, Connie Standifer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
