Phyllis Stevens Parker

November 13, 1945 — March 16, 2011

Mrs. Phyllis Stevens Parker went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 16, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, March 18, 2011 at Midland City United Methodist Church “MCUMC” with Rev. Heather Peacock and Rev. Wayne Parker officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the funeral home. Following entombment, the family reception will be held at Midland City United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to MCUMC in c/o MCUMC P. O. Box 376, Midland City, AL, 36350.

Phyllis was born in Dale County and lived the early years of her life in Echo. She graduated from Dale County High School in Midland City. She began her career with the civil service upon graduation. Her career covered the span of 30 years from her service with the U.S. Army Aviation Center, Ft. Rucker, Alabama, 380th Airborne Wing Maxwell Air Force Base, and then she retired as a Program Manager with the Defense Contract Management Command for the federal government in 2001. Phyllis was a loving and devoted Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord and her family, especially her precious grandchildren, Justin and Jena. She got so much joy from watching Justin play baseball and football, as well as, enjoying shopping with Jena and watching Jena pursue her love of gymnastics. Phyllis was an active member of MCUMC for over 45 years. She served the Lord as pianist, lay leader, certified lay speaker, Recording Secretary for the Administrative Board, taught Wednesday night Bible study, Sunday school teacher, and she served on various other committees.Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Don Parker, her daughter and best friend, Jeri Parker Cullifer, and her SON-in-law, Jody Cullifer, two grandchildren Justin Cullifer and Jena Cullifer of Dothan, two brothers and sister-in-laws, Charles and Syretha Stevens of Midland City, and Ronnie and Marsha Stevens of Blountstown, Florida, and a host of special nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Inez Stevens.Special thanks to those who showed exceptional support during her fight with cancer, especially Dr. Scott McAllister and all his staff. You know how much she loved you all!Serving as active pallbearers will be Doug Parker, Norman McKnight, Dwayne Stevens, Luke Stevens, Greg Brockett and Phillip Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Anthony Wesley, Lamar Spence, and Stanley Eldridge. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
