Rachel Duncan

July 3, 1933 — December 26, 2016

Rachel "GG" Louise Duncan was born a Lunsford of James Lunsford and Cora Lee Wheeler Lunsford on July 3, 1933 in Gantt, Alabama.  She entered into Eternal Rest on Monday, December 26, 2016 in Dothan, AL at a local hospital.

She loved her mama and her family and lived in the surrounding area until she met the man of her dreams, the most handsome sailor, Homer and married him for 63 and a half love filled years. He transferred to the Air Force and they had three loving daughters. They lived mainly throughout the United States during his service career. She patiently waited for up to a year at times while he was overseas and meanwhile did the best job in raising her daughters with the same love of family she had. When he retired she was able to travel overseas with him and loved it, especially Wake Island! Her daughters had children and they had children. When she became a great grandma she took the title of GG and continued the love. She had the biggest, warmest heart and a tough determination that also yielded the nickname GH for Goat Head, but also stands for Good Hearted! She believed in helping others and always put herself last. She would not complain of her own woes or pain, focusing on making sure those around her were taken care of.  She donated blood for many years and also to favorite charities.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Homer H. Duncan, sisters Joyce McGuire and family NY, Mary Moore FL and brother Johnny & Hazel Lunsford NY and family and brother Jack Lunsford's family. Daughters Susie Duncan & her husband Kelly Vansyoc NM and their children Erika, Rachel, Sara and Andrew & his daughter Ava, daughter Peggy Duncan and Joe Gomez AZ, their sons Joey and Chris and daughter Diane and her daughter Sunshine and husband David Lavoie AL and their children Logan, Kinsley and Elora.

She was welcomed to Heaven by her Mother, brother Jack, nephews Paul and Walt and many other family and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
