Ralph Edward Woods

September 15, 1956 — June 30, 2024

Ralph Edward Woods, affectionately known to all as Ralph, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, in Dothan, AL, at the age of 67. Born on September 15, 1956, in Birmingham, AL, Ralph's life was characterized by his selfless love, kindness, and a remarkable sense of humor that endeared him to many.

Ralph's journey through life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his family and an unwavering work ethic. He leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife of 25 years, Maria Luz Woods, his cherished daughter, Angelica Iris Woods (Anan Zattam), and his stepchildren, Keith Pumphrey and Julisa Marie Spizzirro (Jimmy). He was a proud grandfather to Izabella Spizzirro, Brianna Spizzirro, Riddick Pumphrey, Joey Gleason, and Dylan Gleason. Ralph's life was further enriched by the bond he shared with his seven siblings, his best friends, Robert and Lucy LeMonte, and the numerous friends and family members whose lives he touched.

Preceding Ralph in death were his parents, Fred Fields and Lillian Fields, and his son, Christopher Merritt. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him, but the legacy he leaves behind is one of love and laughter.

Ralph's professional life was as robust and varied as his personal interests. He dedicated over two decades to working as a truck driver, a job that took him on countless journeys across the country, where he always found time to make new friends and share stories. Ralph's sense of adventure and service also led him to spend three years in Iraq, where he worked on contract, contributing his skills in challenging environments. His brief but honorable service in the Army was a source of pride for Ralph and those who knew him.

Beyond his work, Ralph was known for his larger-than-life personality. He was often described as funny, blunt, and incredibly giving. An avid fan of Alabama Football, Ralph's enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and he could often be found cheering on his team in high spirits. He embraced his inner cowboy and was a homebody at heart, taking great joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Ralph's interests were diverse and heartfelt. He could lose himself in games on his computer for hours, finding both relaxation and excitement in the digital world. However, his true passion lay in the time he spent with his family. Ralph was a man who loved grilling out and was always eager to buy candy for his grandkids, creating sweet memories with each treat. His daddy-daughter dates for snow cones were cherished moments, as were the times he spent making homemade fudge at Christmas, a tradition that will be fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to taste his confections.

A man of honesty and integrity, Ralph's approach to life was straightforward and sincere. He never shied away from speaking his mind, yet his words were always delivered with love and a desire to do right by others.

As we bid farewell to Ralph Woods, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and joy. His love and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his memory will be held close in the hearts of his family and friends. Ralph's departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled, but the stories, laughter, and love he shared will resonate for generations to come.
