Raymond Forrest Jackson

April 29, 1940 — January 12, 2024

Dothan

Raymond Jackson, a beacon of optimism and creativity, departed this world on January 12, 2024, in Dothan,
Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of love, innovation, and unbridled passion. Born in Hartford, Connecticut,
Raymond moved to the Headland area at a young age, where he blossomed into a disciplined and
entrepreneurial spirit, becoming a 1959 graduate of the Georgia Military Academy. He furthered his education by attending Troy University, where he obtained his bachelors degree. His zest for life was
matched by his commitment to his beloved wife of over 60 years, Hilda Byrd Jackson, and his cherished
children, Jane (Gray) Lloyd, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Jackson along with his supportive sister-in-law, Donna Byrd,
and numerous cousins who admired his vivacity.

Raymond was a man who turned visions into reality, starting several businesses with a focus that never
wavered. As the co-owner of Breathing Care Associates, he demonstrated his keen acumen, which later led
him to sell airplanes with the same finesse and dedication. His career was as varied as it was successful; from
directing External Development at Southeast Health Medical Center to owning and operating Sparkle Plenty
Car Wash, Raymond's entrepreneurial journey was marked by his ability to sell luxury cars and airplanes with
equal charm and expertise. His positive outlook on life was infectious, earning him the respect and fondness
of everyone who crossed his path.

A pillar of the Dothan community, Raymond was an active member of The Dothan Rotary Club and a devout
participant at the First Baptist Church in Dothan. His commitment to service and fellowship was as steadfast
as his love for the skies. An avid aviator, Raymond's passion for flying was not just a hobby but a way of life.
He and his son, Jeff, shared memorable flights to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the annual air show, a tradition that
symbolized the bond between father and son, and the shared joy of soaring above the clouds.

Raymond's interests were a testament to his boundless energy and pursuit of wellness. A man who could fix
anything, he also took great care of himself and those around him. Due to medical conditions, he became
focused on a more healthy lifestyle. This was evident in his love for cross-country cycling and running. His
commitment to physical fitness was highlighted by his participation in The Peachtree Road Race for over a
decade, embodying the spirit of endurance and vitality.

As we celebrate Raymond's extraordinary life, we are reminded of his unwavering optimism. Helen Keller,
once said, "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and
confidence." Raymond lived by these words, approaching each day with that hope and confidence that
allowed him to achieve greatness in his personal and professional endeavors.

A celebration of Raymond's life will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 2 pm in Sunset Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Nick Funderburk officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, where
Raymond's memory will be eternally cherished. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather at the funeral
home from 1-2 pm on Wednesday to share stories and honor the remarkable man that Raymond was. In lieu of
flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Raymond's honor to The American Cancer
