Raymond John Kiefer

July 29, 1932 — December 10, 2014

Raymond John Kiefer, 82, a resident of Headland passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at his residence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014 at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing.  A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel and the family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, Alabama 36303 or American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36111.

Mr. Kiefer was born July 29, 1932 in West Bend, Wisconsin and lived the early part of his life there.  He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and married Mary Englemann in 1952.  Following his military service he returned to West Bend where he was employed as an electrician with Line Material and later Amity Company.  In 1975, he became the maintenance manager with Ansell in Jackson, WI.  He moved to Dothan in 1977, to Tucson, AZ in 1987, and then to Tarboro, NC in 1990 where he remained until retirement from Ansell in 1993.  Since retirement he has resided in Headland, AL.  Ray enjoyed taking his R.V. to the beach and other places.  He was an avid motorcyclist, enjoyed riding and restoring them.  In addition, he enjoyed gardening and working outdoors.  Mr. Kiefer was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Kiefer; a son Scott Glenda Kiefer; a daughter Linda Ray Gentzyel; grandchildren, Devyn and Alyssa Gentzyel, and Kloei Kiefer; nieces, Barbi Van Beek, Mary Ann Neveln, and Lori Glass.
