Reverend Marquis Wingard, a resident of Abbeville, AL passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at his residence. He was 85 years old. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Ray and Diane Kelley and Mike Walton officiating. Burial will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 9-10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Rev. Wingard was born August 19, 1933 in Pike County, AL and spent the early part of his life in Grady, AL. After graduating from the Montgomery County School system, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He was discharged in 1968 and became a United Methodist minister and served as a pastor until his retirement in 2017. He loved to ride horses and motorcycles and was a very active member of the American Legion, the Marine Corps League, the Motley Men Prayer Group, and the Local Chapter of the DAV. Survivors include his wife, Jeannine Wingard; daughter, Janet (Robert) Hinson; son, James (Teresa) Wingard, II; 2 grandchildren, Ezra and Katie Hinson; sisters, Melinda Sellers, Jamie Sharpe, and Ruby Moseley. Serving as pallbearers will be Albert Sharpe, Robert Hinson, David Neal, Paul Peters, Jamie Sharpe and Mike Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Legion, the Motley Men Prayer Group, and the Local Chapter of the DAV.
