Richard Arthur Drown, Sr.

December 18, 1941 — June 3, 2019

Richard Arthur Drown, Sr., a resident of Dothan passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019 at a local hospital. He was 77. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Heritage Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Ross officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Kits for Kids, 1951 Westgate Parkway, Dothan, AL 36303. Mr. Drown was born on December 18, 1941 in Bedford, Maine and lived there the early years of his life. He joined the US Army and served from 1960-1984 and was a Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Drown was a loving and caring man with a big heart, he was always helping his friends and family. He was involved with Kits for Kids and Operation Christmas Child. Mr. Drown was a referee for the Alabama High School Athletic Association for over 20 years. He was employed with Walmart in sporting goods for several years. Mr. Drown was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. Mr. Drown was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Charlotte Drown. Survivors include his sons, Richard Drown, Jr., Craig (Heather) Drown, and Brent (Kimberly) Drown; his grandchildren, Abigail Drown, Katelyn Drown, and Anthony Drown; his brothers, Wendall (Jackie) Drown and Steve (Dayna) Drown; sister-in-law, Brenda Sullivan; nieces, Michelle and Monica; and several nieces and nephews.
