Richard Allen Kirkland

Richard "Ricky" Kirkland, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 at his residence. He was 64 years old.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3pm on Monday, January 24, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ricky Plummer officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 2pm prior to service.

Ricky was born in Houston County on December 13, 1957 and lived in Dothan most of his life. Ricky graduated from Dothan High School in 1976 and received a baseball scholarship to Wallace Community College, where he was the pitcher for two years. He was employed with United Warehouse and later with Collins Signs Company, before working with FedEx before his recent illness. Ricky enjoyed working in the yard, putting together all kinds of puzzles and watching Alabama Football. Ricky could always come up with something to make you laugh.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Kirkland.

Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Culver-Kirkland; son, Joshua (Jalisa) Kirkland; three grandchildren; mother, Hazel Boyd Kirkland; brother, Martin Kirkland; sisters, Paula (John) Kennamore, Beth Kirkland and Debbie (Jeff) Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
