Retired LTC Richard E. Priebe, 83, a resident of Midland City passed away peacefully early on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Flowers Hospital.

Services will be held 2 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home with Dr. Hays McKay and Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church, 3610 W. Main St., Dothan, AL, 36305.Mr. Priebe was born April 19, 1927 in Cleveland, OH and resided the early years of his life in Bedford, OH. While residing in Bedford he worked with the postal service until joining the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of Vietnam and Korean Wars and served for over 23 years until his retirement in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was later employed with the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN as a payroll master until he retired in 1986. He has been a resident of Midland City for the past 25 years and is a member of Covenant United Methodist Church. Mr. Priebe was preceded in death by his father Gustave Priebe, his mother Jeanne Priebe, a grandson Nick Priebe, and a brother Gary Priebe.Survivors include his wife of 58 years Ruth Priebe of Midland City; a son Rick Priebe Tracey of Cloverdale, IN; daughters, Terry White Douglas of Midland City, Sherry Barfield David of Dothan, and Allison McNeeley Rick of Pflugerville, TX; grandchildren, Rhiannon Ellis Tony of Midland City, Lela Crowe of Midland City, Chelsea Priebe of Yokota, Japan, and Lauren Barfield of Dothan; great-grandchildren, Colleen and Aidyn Ellis; a brother Don Priebe Bessie of Cleveland, OH; sisters-in-law, Ann Blankenship James, Ruby Smith, Ellen Gunter Travis, Nell Bodiford David, Eloise Elmore, Hilda Elmore, and Sheila Elmore; numerous nieces and nephews. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
