Richard Wayne Whitehurst

June 11, 1949 — December 29, 2017

Mr. Richard Wayne Whitehurst, affectionately called Waynard by many, died unexpectedly while fishing, which was a favorite pastime. He died Friday, December 29th, 2017 at the age of 68.

Wayne was born in Columbus, GA on June 11, 1949 to Genella Gavin Whitehurst and Joseph Evans Whitehurst. He grew up in Dothan, AL, and later moved to Homestead, FL where he was employed in the accounting field. He was self-employed while living in Destin, FL and at the time of his death he was retired and lived in Freeport, FL.

Wayne loved and was loved by his family and many friends. He was well known for his passion for Alabama football. Until a back injury that prevented him from playing, he enjoyed golf. It would be difficult to say which Wayne enjoyed more, Alabama football or fishing.
