Robert Livingston

July 21, 1914 — November 10, 2016

Robert Livingston, a resident of Dothan passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 at his residence. He was 102 1/4th years old.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30pm Sunday November 20, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Lawrence Thompson, Rector Emeritus of St. Matthias Anglican Church officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30pm until 2:30 Sunday.

William Robert Livingston was born in Eutaw, Alabama, July 21, 1914 to James Pleasant Livingston and Mattie Hardin Livingston.  He attended schools in the Eutaw school system and graduated from Greene County High School in 1931.  He attended the College of Music of Cincinnati, now the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory and graduated in 1939.

Mr. Livingston taught Class Piano in the Cincinnati public schools, then moved to Dothan and opened a Piano studio.

He was organist and choir director for the First Presbyterian Church for seventeen years and organist and choir director for the Episcopal Church of the Nativity for thirty-five years. During this time, he was also organist and cantor for Temple Emanuel. He served as director of the Dothan High School Choral Department for a number of years.

After his retirement, he played for the Trinity Presbyterian Church until their closure. At his death, he was the organist and choir director for St. Matthias Anglican Church, Dothan.

Robert was an avid gardener, specializing in day lilies.

Robert was survived by a nephew, Dan Livingston, Oxford, GA.

Robert was a great lover of animals and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kitty Kottage, 501 C 3, 131 East Selma, Dothan, AL 36301.
