On the afternoon of February 16, 2018, the Lord called Rodney Gilmore, from his earthly home into Heaven to be reunited with many precious loved ones. Graveside services will be held 1 pm Monday, February 19, 2018 in Sunset Memorial Park with Chaplain Eddie Bass officiating and Robert Byrd of Sunset Funeral Home directing. Mr. Gilmore was born January 22, 1947 in Hartford and he lived there during his earlier years. He moved to Wicksburg in the 1980's and then to Taylor where he lived for the past 13 years. Mr. Gilmore was employed with Sunnyland Packing Company for several years as a truck driver. He was later employed as a wheelman with numerous oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. His latest employment was with the Dothan Airport Fire Department as a fire fighter for several years prior to his medical retirement in 1984. Mr. Gilmore loved the outdoors and he was an avid fisherman and loved to fish anywhere there was water. He was known for having a green thumb and growing plants, vegetables, and trees. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hosea and Cora Gilmore; his sister, Joan Gilmore and his brother, Thomas Gilmore. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Earline Gilmore; his son, Scott (Kim) Gilmore; his daughter, Kimberly (Brian) Shehee; his two grandchildren, Hannah and Bart (Jenna) Gilmore; his great-grandchild, Jaxon Gilmore; and his brother, Drew Gilmore.
