Roger Glen Miller

February 21, 1957 — September 18, 2023

Dothan

Roger Glen Miller, a man defined by his adventurous spirit and unwavering courage, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2023, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama following a month-long illness. Born in Dothan, Alabama, on February 21, 1957, Roger's life was a testament to his determination, and love for family and country.

Roger's life was marked by many exceptional achievements. After proudly serving in the US Navy for four years, he rang the bell on Wall Street helping take the company Home USA public, marking the beginning of his career. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to a career in real estate, construction, development, and ultimately aerospace engineering (Member International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers).

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Roger was a man of many talents. He built a Christian Eagle stunt biplane by himself over a two-year period and then conducted the test flights. Roger was certified having flown in the F-16 Fighting Falcon Program - an exclusive group of pilots who have tested their physical limits in this "9 G-force" environment. Flying, hang gliding, skydiving, and an expert in ballistics and guns were a few of his hobbies. As Helen Keller once said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." This quote certainly rang true for Roger.

He is survived by his three sons, Jeremy (Courtney) Miller, Dustin Miller, and Adam Miller, and his grandchildren, Miss Charlie Miller and Maverick Miller. Roger's brothers, Lamar (Susan) Miller, and Michael (Tammy) Miller along with nieces and nephews will remember him as a loving brother and steadfast friend.

In the words of Mark Twain, "Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear." Roger's life was characterized by these words. His service to his country and fearless pursuits will continue to inspire all those who knew him.

Roger's final selfless act was to give the gift of life through organ donation.

A celebration of Roger's life will be held at 5 pm on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Teresa Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-5 pm.
