Ronald Roney

Ronald Roney, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, took his final breath on February 17, 2024, after a courageous battle with an extended illness that he faced with the same tenacity he approached life. Born on October 6, 1948, in Houston County, Alabama, Ronald's journey came full circle as he passed away, surrounded by the love and memories he had built over the years.

Ronald proudly served his country in the United States Army for 23 years, including two tours in Vietnam as a member of the Special Forces. His dedication to service was a testament to his love for America, a passion that was only rivaled by the love he had for his family. After his military service, he returned to Dothan, where he spent most of his career as a skilled electrician, illuminating the lives of those around him both literally and figuratively.

He was a man of many interests, and despite his illness in recent years, he looked forward to exploring the art of woodworking. Ronald's stubborn nature was a hallmark of his personality, often seen as a reflection of his unwavering commitment to his principles and the people he held dear. A patriot through and through, Ronald found his greatest joy in the laughter and achievements of his grandchildren.

Ronald is survived by a loving family who will carry on his legacy: his sons, Scott (Randi) Roney and Tyler (Cynthia) Roney; his cherished grandchildren, Bentley Roney, Adeline Roney, Liam Scott Roney, and Christopher Wyatt Roney; his brother, William Cherry; his step-sister, Lois Royal; and by his niece, Tina Maria Muria. Each family member was a source of immense pride for Ronald, and he instilled in them the values of courage, passion, and friendliness that he embodied throughout his life.

As we remember Ronald, we are reminded of the words of the great Winston Churchill, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." Ronald's life was a testament to this belief, as he faced each challenge with a resilient spirit and a friendly smile, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.

A graveside service with military honors to celebrate Ronald's life will be held at 4 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Park.

Ronald's story may have reached its final chapter, but his influence will continue to resonate through the lives of his family, friends, and all who were privileged to know him. His laughter, stories, and the warmth of his presence will be deeply missed, yet forever cherished in the memories we hold. Ronald Roney's legacy of love, service, and unwavering patriotism will endure, inspiring those he leaves behind to live with the same fervor and conviction. Rest in peace, dear Ronald; your journey was one well-traveled, and your rest is well-earned.
