Rosa Harriet Lewis

Rosa Harriet Lewis, 85, a resident of Dothan passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Wesley Manor.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joyce Whiting officiating.

Rosa Harriet Whiting Lewis was the second child born to Albert Theodore and Kathryn Frances Whiting on February 10, 1930 in New York City. She departed this life peacefully on June 23, 2015 in Dothan, Al.

The family relocated from New York to their hometown of Dothan when Rosa was a toddler. She was raised in a Christian home, a believer in God, and was a member of Parks Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Rosa was educated in Dothan City School System and graduated in 1947 from North Highland High School.

Rosa met the love of her life, Andrew Duke Lewis, who was stationed at Ft. Rucker, Al. They married and relocated to his home, Chicago Illinois, and resided for 53 years. Her life vocation was as a sewing machine operator and later she became manager of the Inspection Division. She was our “Inspector # 9”. Rosa was an avid bowler and passionate member of the 500 Club League. She traveled with her league across the United States where she amassed a plethora of awards and trophies for her bowling expertise.

Rosa moved back to Dothan, Alabama in 2000 home when the Chicago Winters became too fierce to navigate. In her final years she lived and, ended this earthly life under the loving, skilled care of Wesley Manor, Saunders Unit, and Gentiva Hospice Care.

She is survived by her Brother, Theodore Francis Whiting Joyce, Nieces and Nephews, Harold McRae Martha, Dothan, Al., William Hamilton Kirkland, New Orleans, LA.  Gerald Sanders, Boston, Ma. Theolyn Whiting Miller, Mae  Helaine Shorter William , Tara Simmons Harris Van , all of Dothan, Al., Karl Julian Whiting Notalsia, Mobile,  William Ward Greenfield Tiffany, Little Rock, AR, Elizabeth Danielle Whiting, Albany, Oregon, Lya Renee’ Snell Eddie McDonough, GA, Albert Christopher Whiting ,Jr., Montgomery, Al, and a lifelong friend, Mae Rivers Greenfield, Dothan.  Rosa had a host of grand nieces and nephews who were the apple of her eye. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Colleen Kirkland, and Nephew, Albert Christopher Whiting, Sr.
