Roy Lee Grubbs

November 21, 1946 — January 20, 2015

Roy Lee Grubbs, 68, a resident of Newton passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at his residence.

Memorial services were held 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating and Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL, 36303.

Mr. Grubbs was born November 21, 1946 in Ft. McClellan, AL and spent most of his young life in Grimes, AL where he attended Dale County High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam era as an aerographer's mate in Guam. He was employed with Lewis-Smith Supply in sales for over 20 years and also as a master commercial and industrial plumber with Charles Hartley Plumbing for over 10 years. Mr. Grubbs was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for the last 16 1/2 years and loved his church family. He enjoyed the great outdoors especially throwing a Frisbee and riding his bike.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years Judy Grubbs; daughters, Judith Michelle Jason Cantrell and Cynthia Marie Bobby Harrell; grandchildren, Steven Gage Ray, Aurora Juliahnna Harrell, and Jason Lamar Cantrell Jr.; brothers, Louis Becky Boothe, Robert Cathy Grubbs, and James Mandy Grubbs; a sister, Joan Tony Harris; his lifelong best friend, Michael Erwin Roberts; cousins, Floyd Edward Becky Boothe and Dean Roger Brasher; several nieces and nephews.
