Rudolph Clower

Rudolph Conway Clower, a resident of Dothan passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 86.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Martha Baxter and Rev. John Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am until service time Saturday. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, 956 County Road 221 Elba, Alabama 36323 or Piney Grove United Methodist Church, 5458 South Park, Dothan, AL 36301.

Mr. Clower was born June 2, 1923 in the Chestnut Grove community in Coffee County and lived there the early years of his life. He was the son of the late Daniel Clanton Clower and Lurline Clower. Mr. Clower was a 1941 graduate of Pike County High School and he was a veteran of World War II having served with the Army Air Corp as a radio specialist. Following the war he worked in the family business and later became a federal food inspector traveling across the United States. He moved to Dothan in 1965 and operated Clower Grocery and Clowers Radio and TV Repair Shop. Mr. Clower was very involved with the Taylor Senior Citizens Community Center. Mr. Clower loved playing Dominos, fishing and cultivating his prized blueberries. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Daniel C. Clower, Jr.

Survivors include his nephew, Dr. Daniel C. Clower, III, Selma; his niece, Deborah Clower Street and her husband, Randy, Dothan; his sister-in-law, Deen Clower, Dothan; great-nieces, Jennifer Holland and her husband, Chris, Dothan, Amy Chambless and her husband, Jeff, Birmingham; a great nephew, James Patrick Street, Dothan; great-great niece, Emma Kay Holland, Dothan; great-great nephew, Emmet Chambless, Birmingham; a very special friend, Sue Bryan, Dothan.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Holland, James Patrick Street, Keith White, Daniel C. Clower, III, Randy Street and Thomas Godwin.
