Rufus Tucker Jr., a resident of Dothan and formerly of Headland passed away on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Flowers Hospital. He was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9 at Trinity Baptist Church in Headland. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and from 1-2 prior to the service at the church. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 15786 U.S. Hwy. 431, Headland, AL, 36345.Mr. Tucker was born on February 15, 1921 in Leon County, FL to Rufus and Minnie Tucker and lived the early years in Crawfordville, FL. He was a Lay Minister throughout Henry County for several years. Brother Rufus will always be remembered for his outreach ministry in Henry County and everywhere he went preaching the word of the Lord. He not only preached the word but lived everyday of his life for the Lord. His desire was that everyone believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Tucker was a member of the DAV Chapter 87 in Dothan and was of the Baptist Faith.Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and a brother.Survivors include his loving wife Rebecca Tucker of Dothan; daughters, Barbara Guthrie Ted of Grimes, Lisa Daniels Jerry of Pelham; a son Donald Lisenby of Grimes; grandchildren, Beverlye Cody Don of Dothan, Elise Weaver Jason of Pelham, Shaina Lisenby of Ozark, Alan Volf of Grimes, Kyle Volf Brooke of Headland, Donald Lisenby II Brandi of Tenn.; 1 great-granddaughter; 5 great-grandsons; a brother Dexter Tucker Iva of Douglasville, GA; a very special niece Donna Ward of Dothan; several nieces and nephews.
