Russell Brooks, 58, a resident of Dothan, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park with Brother Benjamin Wright officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-6:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Russell was born August 17, 1956 in Dale County to the late Frederick Brooks and Annie Merle Jackson Brooks and he resided the early years of his life in Ozark. He was a 1974 graduate of Carroll High School where he played on the basketball team. He later attended Wallace Community College where he received his nursing degree in 1976. Russell was employed with Southeast Alabama Medical Center for over 30 years until his medical retirement in 2008. During his employment with SAMC he was presented the Nurse of the Year award and also played on the SAMC Basketball Team. He was a hat collector and was affiliated with the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall East Congregation. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kelly Danzey and an uncle Willie James Jackson.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Sherry Brooks; his daughters, Amber Chad Clark, Jessica Brooks, and Courtney Kawaun Doyle; a son Frederick Rhonda Danzey; his 13 grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Annie Merle Brooks; a brother James Cora Brooks; a sister Carolyn James Currington; a special cousin Mattie Jean Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
