Sammie G. Etheridge, 88, a resident of Dothan passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Willie Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Etheridge was born May 7, 1927 in Houston County and lived in this area all of his life. He attended Webb School and joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII and was issued the Victory Medal being discharged in 1947 and returning to Dothan. Upon his return he was employed with the Hosiery Mill and City Tire Company. He moved to Eufaula and worked with Easy Pay Tire Company and returned to Dothan in 1970 where he was employed with City Tire until his retirement in 1989. He later owned and operated South Oates Tire Company for several years. Mr. Etheridge loved to go fishing in his spare time and was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he was active in the Foy Strickland Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland Louis and Jutie Lou Etheridge; a sister Betty Finehirsh; a brother Cleveland Louis Etheridge, Jr.; brothers-in-law Jim Turner and Herb Finehirsh.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Mary Etheridge; a daughter Sandra Brian Williams; grandchildren, Jennifer Evans and Samantha Evans; great-grandchildren, Malachi and Emerson; a sister Jackie Turner; several nieces, nephews and cousins; numerous special friends. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Alacare Hospice and Extendicare Nursing as well as the employees of Circle Pharmacy for all of their loving support during this time.
