Sara Hathcock Mccarty

Sara Hathcock McCarty, 93, of Dothan died Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Westside Terrace.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Dr. James B. Sanders and Reverend Allie Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 in the parlor of First United Methodist Church, Dothan.

Mrs. McCarty was born April 1, 1920, in Chapman, Alabama and moved to Greenville, Alabama where she spent the early years of her life. She resided in Blakely, Georgia several years and attended Valdosta State College prior to moving to Dothan in 1940.

Mrs. McCarty was a charter member of the Dothan Service League and The Young Women’s Study Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Dothan and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. For many years she taught the five year old Sunday School class.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert B. McCarty; a son, Robert B. Bob McCarty, Jr.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Edward Hatchcock; a brother, Ed Hatchcock Evelyn, Dothan; and two sisters, Elizabeth Blackwell Claude Greenville, Alabama; and Lula Tindell Clyde, Albany, Georgia.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha Thagard Bo, Dothan; a son, John McCarty Jackie, Conyers, Georgia; a daughter-in-law, Patti Cutchen Mike, Murphy, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Bowen Thagard Carolyn, Birmingham, Kent Thagard Heather, Decatur, Georgia; Meredith Meeks Brandt, Watkinsville, Georgia; Kevin McCarty, Atlanta, Georgia; Case McCarty and Evan McCarty, Conyers, Georgia. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Ivey and Molly Meeks, Watkinsville, and Kate and Ella Thagard, Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the In Christ Name Fund at First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36301.
