Sarah Louise "Sandi" McCool, 37, of Dothan passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones after a brave and heroic battle with breast cancer.
rnFuneral services will be held 3 pm Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain James Thurman Col. Ret. officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial services will be 11 am Monday, November 28, 2011 at Memory Gardens in Dadeville, AL with Robert Byrd directing. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Champions of Hope Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation, 1922 Fairview Ave., Dothan, AL, 36301 or by visiting www.samcfoundation.org. rnMrs. McCool was born May 12, 1974 in Alexander City, AL and lived the early part of her life on Lake Martin. She was a 1992 graduate of Dadeville High School and received her nursing degree from Jefferson State Community College and also a degree in Registered Vascular Ultrasound. Sandi resided in Indianapolis, IN prior to moving to Dothan in2006 where she was employed at Flowers Hospital as an Operating Room Nurse. She especially enjoyed water sports in her spare time. Sandi also was the founding chairperson and inspiration for the Champions of Hope Race, which provides cancer support for people in the Wiregrass area. rnSurvivors include her husband Dr. Alan McCool of Dothan; her mother Joyce Thurman and the late Jef Thurman of Dadeville, AL; a brother MortDee Thurman of Jackson’s Gap, AL; a sister Marti Thurman of Auburn, AL; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Duane and Margaret Ann McCool of Gadsden, AL; a sister-in-law Meredith Hays Latimer of Birmingham, AL; her niece and god-daughter Margaret Anne Latimer; nieces Melyssa, M.J., and J.T. Thurman; special cousin Amy Steve Adams; and many special girlfriends, especially Kelly Skinner and Gigi Schuyler. rnThe family would like to extend a very special thank you to Sandi’s doctors: Dr. Scott McAllister, Dr. Allen Latimer, Dr. Steven Stokes, Dr. Hejal Patel, Dr. Bill Owen, and Dr. Jonathan Skinner.
