Seaby Bess

November 11, 1938 — April 16, 2018

Seaby Bess, of Ashford, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 of injuries sustained from an automobile accident. He was 79. Funeral services will be held 2 pm Thursday April 19, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Todd Thorpe officiating. The family will receive friends 12:30-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. Mr. Bess was born in Holmes County Florida on November 11, 1938 and lived there the early years of his life. He moved to Chicago and began to work as a property manager at an apartment complex. Later, he joined the United States Air Force serving 4 years and was stationed in Turkey. He met and married the love of his life, Floy Hughes, in 1960. Following his military service, he returned to Chicago. Mr. Bess was an estimator for Staalsen Construction Company for over 30 years until his retirement in 2008. Following his retirement, he relocated to Ashford. He was a member of the Circle City Corvette Club, volunteered at Flowers Hospital, and attended Watermark Church. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Floy Bess; his son, Seaby (Betti) Bess; his daughter, Lisa Griffiths; his 5 grandchildren, Seaby Michael Bess, Michelle Bess, Samantha (Taylor) Cash, Matthew "Bob" Bess, Megan (Andy) Kieser; his great-grandchildren, Tanner Cash, Cooper Cash, and one little Kieser on the way; his brother, Mike (Sheryl) Bess; his sisters, Gerri (Art) Habbard and Jan (Manuel) Paul; several nieces and nephews and extended family.
