SFC Luther G. Turner, US Army Ret., 73, of Ozark, AL received his topflight call to Heaven on Thursday, August 27, 2020. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 5, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Flowers officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Ozark. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, September 4, 2020 from 5-7 pm. Mr. Turner was born on May 19,1947 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Mr. Luther Gene Turner Sr. and Mrs. Claudia Davis Turner. He lived his childhood life in Detroit, MI where he attended McNair Elementary School, Rossevelt Junior High School, and graduated from Inkster High School in Inkster, MI in 1965. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Detroit MI until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. While in the U.S Army, he served tour duties in Ft Rucker, two Combat tours in Vietnam, Hunter Army Airfield, Second ID, Seoul Korea, Ft Campbell, Ft Benning, Ft. Carson, and Retired at Ft Rucker in 1989. During his tours, he served as a Crew Chief, Aircraft Mechanic, Aircraft Inspector, and Aircraft Instructor. He was awarded The Army Commendation Medal Certificate for service during the period of June 14,1980 through January 31,1984 while in Ft Carson, Colorado. Whenever he was asked, where is your favorite place to live? He would always say, “Well, two places. Overseas, I would have to say Germany and within the United States, I would say Colorado Springs, Colorado. I hate the coldness, but I love looking at the snow.” He received his Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License from Alabama Aviation College in Ozark, AL. After retirement he worked at DynCorp for 10 years and Army Fleet for 10 years until his illness. Mr. Turner leaves to cherish his loving wife of 50 years, Evelyn Stuckey Turner of Ozark, AL; one daughter, Felecia Turner of Dothan, AL; one son, Antonio Turner of Ozark, AL; two sisters, Diane Davis (Dan) of Clearwater, FL; Deborah King, two brothers, Jack Turner and Oliver Holston all of Detroit, MI; one Uncle, James Smith Holston, Culloden, GA; Nieces and Nephews: Torianto Holston, Roman Holston, Nikki Holston, Veronique Davis, all of Detroit MI; Melvena and Melvina Clifton both of Columbia, SC; special brother-in-law, Hildreth (Terri) Stuckey of Atlanta, GA; special sister-in-law, Janie McCloud of Ozark, AL; special nephews, Wayne McCloud and Andrew Stuckey both of Atlanta, GA.; Andre Stuckey of Columbus, GA; and one grand-godson, Tavaris Mahone of Dothan, AL And a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends. Burial Date September 5, 2020 A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 5, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Flowers officiating.
