SGM William H. "Bill" Witcraft, USA, Retired, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at his residence after an extended illness. He was 75. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 am. Mr. Witcraft was born on April 28, 1944 in Camden, New Jersey and lived the early years of his life in Miami, Florida. He joined the US Army and served for 24 years until his retirement. He served for 2 tours in Vietnam and 1 tour in Germany and received numerous awards including the Bronze Star Medal. Mr. Witcraft has resided in Dothan since 2000. He was an avid stamp collector and member of the American Philatelic Society, an Auburn Tiger's fan, and a huge NASCAR fan. He was a member of the Ft. Payne Rotary Club. Mr. Witcraft loved spending time with his family and especially his dachshund, Rusty. Survivors include his wife, Laverne Holland-Witcraft; his daughter and granddaughter, Nelanie and Olivia McAfee, Georgia; his step-daughter, Nicole (Stuart) Holland, California; his father-in-law, Kermit (Eula) Richardson, Dothan; his sisters, Sandy (Joe), Florida, and Barbara Oehlert, California; his brother, Ben (JoAnn) Merker, Georgia; his brother-in-law, Dr. Jerry Allen, Louisiana; his sisters-in-law, Marcy Chapman and Mavis Barfield; his God-son and friend, Cedric Hollis; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Encompass Hospice and his caregiver, Jennifer Godfrey. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 am.
