Dothan

Sharon Diann Horn, a pillar of love, generosity, and selflessness, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023, in Dothan, AL. Born on August 26, 1953, to Carthell and Irvyl Meadows in Hartford, AL, born one of six children, her life was a testament to her unfaltering commitment to family, church, and education.

Sharon was a strong and determined woman; she was a beacon of dedication and commitment in her personal and professional life. She obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education from Troy University. With these credentials, she embarked on a fulfilling career as an educator. She began her journey at Early County Elementary School in Blakely, GA, where she left an indelible mark on numerous young lives. Later, she continued to inspire students at Trinity Lutheran in Dothan.

In addition to her dedication to teaching, Sharon was a committed member of the community. She served as a member of the Dothan North Camp Auxiliary of Gideons International, contributing her time and energy to this worthy cause. She was also an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where her faith shone brightly and she was a source of strength and support to her fellow congregants.

Sharon found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including beach outings, shopping, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. Her commitment to her family was unwavering, and she took delight in every opportunity to visit her grandchildren and share in their lives.

Sharon was a caretaker by nature. From animals to children to family members to friends in her church, she dedicated her life to selflessly caring for others. She provided a listening ear, comfort, and friendship, and she took every opportunity to meet someone else's needs.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, John Horn. Their beautiful union was blessed with two children, Jeremy (Allison) Horn of Beaumont, Texas and Heather (Dallas) Burright of Chicago, Illinois. She was the proud Grammy of five grandchildren, Garrett Horn, Kate Horn, Ella Burright, Cora Burright, and Vivian Burright, who will forever cherish memories of their grandmother's love and kindness. Sharon is also survived by her sister, Linda Swain (Joe), and brothers, Gary Meadows (Jo Ann), Johnny Meadows (Linda), Mark Meadows (Kerry), and Jerry Meadows.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Carthell and Irvyl Meadows. Their legacy of love and generosity continues to live on through Sharon and her family.

Sharon's love for education, her steadfast faith, and her unwavering dedication to her family are the hallmarks of her life. She was a woman of great strength and kindness, whose generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be engraved in the hearts of her loved ones and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

A celebration of Sharon's life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with Pastor Ray Jones officiating. Sharon will be laid to rest in a private burial at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 1-2 pm.
