Shirley Louise Buurma of Geneva, Alabama passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017 at her residence. She was 79.

Ms. Buurma was born on August 17, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana and lived there her early years. She was a 1955 graduate of Shelbyville High School. She was employed as a word processor for KPMG accounting firm in Orlando, Florida and resided in Orlando and later Winter Haven, Florida before moving to Geneva in February 2017. As she loved to quilt, knit and crochet; she made quilts for all her children and grandchildren. Ms. Buurma was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her sons, David Smith, Bernard Smith, Kenneth Smith and Gordon Smith; a daughter, Becky Edwards; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Suzy Tharpe and Sally Mayrhofer; three nieces and two nephews.
