December 16, 1938 — February 5, 2019

Mrs. Shirley "Sherl" Jean Shirah, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at a local hospital. She was 80. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1-2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 3257 Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301. Mrs. Shirah was born on December 16, 1938 in Rehobeth, Alabama and lived in Dothan her whole life. 54 years ago, Mrs. Shirah met and married the love of her life, Don. She was a very selfless, giving wife, mother, and friend. She loved cooking, spending time with her family and friends and having them taste her food and wonderful desserts. Mrs. Shirah was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Charity Sunday School Class. Mrs. Shirah is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Harrell, Sr. and Sue Pittman Harrell and by her brother, Arthur Harrell, Jr. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James "Don" Shirah; her daughter, Teresa (Tony) McLester; her sister-in-law, Cabira Harrell; her special friends, Cyndi and Richard Newman, Ann and Coley Mathis, and Maurice and Betty Plummer; and a host of nieces and nephews. Serving as active pallbearers will be Charles Collins, Billy Herring, Matthew Sasser, Tony Barnes, Allen Outlaw, Maurice Plummer, and Stanley Harrell.
