Su Van Nguyen, a resident of Dothan, AL, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023. He was 69 years old.
The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home from 4-6 pm on Friday, January 13, 2023. A rosary service will begin at 5pm on Friday evening.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Saint Columba Catholic Church with Father Jim Dane officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A Reception will be held at 5pm on Saturday at the Golden Corral Buffet, 3340 Ross Clark Cir, Dothan, AL 36303. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a mass or prayer be offered in the name of Su Van Nguyen.
Su was born on May 1, 1953 to Lich Van and Nu Thi Nguyen in Vietnam. As a young man, Su served in the Vietnamese-American military. He was devoted to the Lord and his family. Su and his wife, Ro Thi Tran were married on December 28, 1972 and together they were dedicated members of Saint Columba Catholic Church. Su had a passion for fishing, performing for his family with his guitar, and playing games like poker and Chinese chess.
He is survived by his wife, Ro Thi Tran Nguyen of Dothan, AL; his children, Meaghan Phuong Nga Vuong and husband Tam Kien Vuong of Sugar Land, TX, Phuong Van Nguyen of Dothan, AL, David Van Nguyen and wife Jessica Nguyen of Villa Rica, Ga, Peter Van Nguyen and wife Kim Nguyen of Oxford, AL, Sang Thanh Nguyen and wife Maryann Nguyen of Dothan, AL, Theresa Ngoc Nguyen In and husband Guy Sokkay In of Spring, TX, and Luke Trang Van Nguyen and Brady Cook, of Villa Rica, GA; his grandchildren, Jonathan Nguyen, Trent Khai Lap Vuong, Winston Khan Lap Vuong, Kadence Nicole Nguyen, Parker Tan Nguyen, Chloe Marie Nguyen, Simon Minh Nguyen, London Elizabeth Hanh Nguyen, Miley Xuan Nhi Nguyen, Owen Thanh Nguyen, Ali Vy Nguyen, and Lily Lu In; his siblings, Viet Van Nguyen, Nam Van Nguyen, Quoc Van Nguyen, Dan Van Nguyen, Dong Van Nguyen, and Chung Van Nguyen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to family and friends who were able to attend from near and far. They are grateful to the healthcare providers, who have been by their side during dad's treatments and palliative care. They would like to also thank their church/spiritual family, who have carried them through this difficult time through prayers. They appreciate their extended family for the constant love and support.
