Sue Logan McCurley Lucas, 84, of Dothan died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm Tuesday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 pm until 7 pm Monday. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Greystone United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, Alabama 36302.rnMrs. Lucas was born September 17, 1926 in Dale County and lived the early years of her life in Ozark. She attended Frazier Ellis School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nurse degree. Mrs. Lucas was employed as a pediatric nurse with Dr. William Ball; she also worked at Moody Hospital, Flowers Hospital, and the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She spent the majority of her career as a private RN helping many families by attending to them in their homes until her retirement in the early 1980’s. Upon retiring she moved to the Screamer community near Lake Eufaula where she enjoyed life at the lake and fishing. Mrs. Lucas was a member of the Mother’s Club, Red Hat Society, Greystone United Methodist Church and the Esther Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 41 years John K. McCurley; her second husband B.L. Lucas; brothers Gene Logan and James “Bo” Logan; a great-grandson Christian Maxwell.rnSurvivors include her sons, Mike McCurley and his wife Sheila of Dothan and Mark McCurley and his wife Joyia of Dothan; a step-son David Lucas and his wife Mary of Fairhope, AL; her daughters, Carol Maxwell and her husband Gary of Dothan Kaye Gibbs and her husband Bill of Sapphire, NC; 9 grandchildren, Sherri Collins, Brooks Maxwell, Amy Sleipness, Will Gibbs, Allison McCurley, John Michael McCurley, Emily McCurley, Logan McCurley, and Sydney McCurley; 6 great-grandchildren; her brother E.W. Logan of Ozark; her sisters, Martha Whitehead of Marietta, GA and Lillie Logan Bolton of Ozark; several nieces and nephews. rnServing as active pallbearers will be John Michael McCurley, Logan McCurley, Will Gibbs, Brooks Maxwell, David Whitehead, Matt Whitehead, and Paul Whitehead.
