Sue Walker Spencer

Sue Walker Spencer, a resident of Savannah, TN and formerly of Dothan passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at her son’s residence in Thomasville, GA. She was 72.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home from 5 until 8 pm on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Jerry Spencer Ministries for Missions, P.O. Box 6926, Dothan, AL, 36302. A second service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 9-10 am prior to the service at the church. Interment services will be held at 2:30 pm at Brownsville Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN with Robert Byrd directing.Mrs. Spencer was born on July 5, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee and she resided the early years of her life in Brownsville, TN. She was a graduate of Union University, in Jackson, TN and was a school teacher for a number of years. Mrs. Spencer served faithfully and fervently by her husband’s side in his ministry. She did accounting work and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church.Mrs. Spencer is preceded in death by her father, W.H. Walker, Jr. and her mother, Evelyn Brandon Walker of Brownsville, TN.Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Dr. Jerry L. Spencer; two sons, Van Spencer and his wife Rosemary, of Mount Holly, NC, Dan Spencer and his wife, Tresa, of Thomasville, GA; two daughters, Jan Hooper and her husband, Rick, Brownsville, TN, Dolly Shirley of Anderson, SC; her brother, W.H. Walker, III and his wife, June, of Brownsville, TN; her sister, Janette Pate of Brownsville, TN; her grandchildren Brandi Ferrell and her husband Jonathan of Savannah, TN, Hannah Douglas of Brownsville, TN, Spencer Douglas of Brownsville, TN, Matthew Hooper of Brownsville, TN, Christan Hooper of Memphis, TN, Will Spencer of Dothan, AL, Pate Spencer of Dothan, AL, Philip Smith of Dallas, TX, Second Lieutenant William Smith of Enid, OK, Andrew Smith of Mount Holly, NC, Jeremiah Spencer of Thomasville, GA, Jacob Spencer of Thomasville, GA, Nichole Shirley of Anderson, SC, Laura Shirley of Anderson, SC, Andi Shirley of Anderson, SC; great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Jo Ferrell of Savannah, TN; her brothers-in-law, Donald Spencer and his wife Vicky of Brownsville, TN and Larry Spencer and his wife Mary of Little Rock, AR; several nieces and nephews. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
